Help With Fertility and IVF in Sydney

The decision to seek advice when you are having trouble conceiving can be daunting, but it can also be empowering. That’s why I aim to provide all my patients with a personal approach in a supportive and nurturing environment.

I am Dr Devora Lieberman, a gynaecologist and IVF specialist, based in Sydney, offering comprehensive assistance to people who are not able to conceive on their own.  Much of our success in fertility treatment, I believe, is due to my progressive and caring approach.

If you are concerned about any aspect of your fertility, then the first step is to call and book an initial consultation. During this appointment, we will explore your medical history, assess your needs, review what investigations have been done and what need to be done, and then discuss the most suitable approach.

Managing expectations is one of the most challenging aspects of my role. After we review your history and test results you will know exactly where you stand, what we can do and what we can’t do, and what your options are.

The AMH Test: Separating Fact from Fertility Fiction.

Separating fact from fertility fiction Dr Devora on AMH testing

“As elective egg freezing becomes more mainstream, and women in their 20’s and 30’s are bombarded by social media posts urging them to ‘take charge of their fertility,’ many are interested in their AMH level.

Misconceptions about fertility, ovarian reserve testing, and the promise of egg freezing abound. For example, women may request anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) testing to ‘check their fertility’.

Many falsely believe that AMH will tell them about their current and future chance of conception, as well as their anticipated age of menopause.

In a study published this month in Human Reproduction, I was one of the authors who found that once women were given evidence-based information about the AMH test they were less likely to have further interest in being tested than if they received information from a commercial organisation.

If you’re considering AMH testing, please have a read of this information first so you have a thorough understanding of what your AMH level can, and can’t, tell you about yourself and your fertility.’

In 1997, she was part of the faculty practice at one of the Harvard hospitals when her university sweetheart came back into her life and she made the move to Australia. “There’s no surf in Boston Harbour,” he told her. From 1998 through to 2003, she held a number of senior positions in Women’s Health, Sexual Health and Fertility-related organisations.

In 2003, she became an accredited doctor at Sydney IVF (now Genea) where she also worked on staff and was integral in founding the very successful Miscarriage Management program, which assess and treats couples experiencing recurrent miscarriage.

In 2019, Devora joined City Fertility as Clinical Director. With over 20 years of experience in reproductive medicine and performing more than 5,000 IVF cycles, Devora has helped thousands of couples and individuals.

She is passionate about women’s health and as an acknowledged fertility specialist is very active outside of the practice. Devora was a Director of Family Planning NSW for 12 years, and served as its President for most of those. She was a Director of the Fertility Society of Australia for 8 years. Devora often writes and speaks about fertility-related issues to professional as well as consumer audiences.

Fertility Treatment Options

There are a number of different assisted conception treatments available and all of them aim to increase the chance of pregnancy by enhancing what happens in nature.

The main techniques for assisting conception are:

  • Assisted insemination (also known as intrauterine insemination, or IUI)
  • Ovulation induction
  • In vitro fertilisation (IVF) and its variations

I can also assist with:

  • Egg freezing
  • Donor eggs or sperm
  • Surrogacy

Fertility Clinics Sydney

If we determine that some form of assisted conception is the best option for you, then you will have treatment through City Fertility.

Choosing a fertility clinic may be one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Not all clinics are the same, and making an informed choice can be difficult.

I work with a highly qualified team of dedicated nurses and scientists who provide great personalised care. Many of the most recent advances in fertility treatment are exclusive to City Fertility patients.
